QSR N6 (also known as NUD*IST N6) is a legacy qualitative data analysis application developed by QSR International. Designed for researchers working with unstructured text, it helps organize, code, and analyze materials such as interview transcripts, field notes, and policy documents. N6 supports hierarchical coding schemes, full-text searching, and advanced query options (including Boolean and proximity searches) to explore patterns and relationships in data. Researchers can attach memos, link related passages, manage cases and attributes for comparative analysis, and generate coding reports and summaries. It also offers a command language to streamline repetitive tasks and support transparent, reproducible workflows.
N6 runs on Windows and focuses on text-based analysis; it does not handle audio, video, or other multimedia sources. While now superseded by the NVivo product line, N6 remains notable for its robust, theory-building tools and reliable performance on large, text-only qualitative projects.
